How do I sign up?

Again, eventually we'll need signed paper even though no money changes hands; our lawyer insists that without it, we could get fried like a chicken in a court of law.

But we've never turned down a cop in need over paperwork.  Just give us a ring, and we can get started.  We're trying to make this as simple and convenient as possible.

How does this work?  What's the procedure?

  • The cops remain in charge, always! We function as consultants.

  • Identify a mental health need, either on-scene or upon dispatch.

  • Collect name, DOB and contact info; formulate a brief synopsis.

  • Call 303-285-1279, give info, perhaps an introduction on speaker.

  • We will ask respondent(s) if they prefer phone or video (they almost always choose phone).

  • If they choose phone, we contact them on their device.

  • If they choose video we send a telehealth link to secure video on their device.

  • If they have no device or capability, we may be stuck using your phone; that's only happened once in two years.

  • If de-escalation is needed, we do that together.

  • We do not refuse to engage with intoxicated parties!  But please understand: our assessment has poor reliability in those cases, so our value to you is reduced.  We can still help de-escalate and intervene, though.

  • We offer up an emergency mental health intervention and assessment.

  • If all indicators point to safety-plan-and-stay-home, and if we all agree that the scene is safe for now, you can return to service--we can always call you back in.

  • If not, we continue to collaborate until things either improve, or it's pretty clear that they're not going to improve.

  • If no hold and transport are taking place, Frontera will work toward safety plan and follow up.

  • If a hold is needed, you can either write your own, or you can fill out the majority of the M-1 form and we can dictate a narrative to you, along with our full name and license number in order to co-sign.

  • If there is reason to do so, or when the grant requires it, once matters are resolved there can be a brief follow-up call in order to cross our eyes and dot our T's.

  • Within 24 hours, Frontera will send a notice with basic info about the call for their records to the Sheriff (or Chief) or whomever the Sheriff has designated as a liaison to Frontera.

  • Basic data will be recorded for the grant.

That's it.
